Keep them safe, Make them strong
In our world, most of us consider education, a roof over our heads, food on the table not as a privilege but a basic human right. There is, however, a very different reality for many thousands of our strong, bright, willing and creative young girls in South Africa. Never before has the need to develop their talent and intelligence been greater or more urgent. They are, after all, the heart and backbone of our country, and a large part of our resource and hope for the future. These courageous girls want nothing more than to be able to access these rights, with our help. The plight of girls, and women, in South Africa is well documented. Yet, despite laudable attempts and promising policy interventions, still in 2017, the situation remains precarious for young girls in South Africa on all fronts.
Khulisa has the answer.
THRIVE! is a PROGRAMME TO ASSIST GIRLS AT SCHOOL TO IDENTIFY THEIR BEST CAREER OPTIONS, BE EQUIPPED WITH SKILLS TO ACHIEVE THEIR GOALS AND BE MENTORED ON THE JOURNEY TO ENSURE SUSTAINED SUCCESS.
Khulisa’s pledge is to help secure resources for this group of modern African women-in-the-making. Their destiny is carved, not grabbed, it is worked for, not snatched. It is earned, not handed out. It is secured, not threatened. They are part of Africa’s solution.
Khulisa’s programme will ensure that these girls are scientifically assessed for career options, receive guidance on subject choices, be exposed to e-Learning opportunities. They will participate in our innovative personal development programmes like Dare to Dream that will equip them with resilience and soft skills so essential to a confident and independent future. They will be allocated a mentor to guide them through their journey.
Education will help break the cycle of teenage pregnancy and dependency on social grants. These women will be able to support their famlies and pass on the legacy of empowerment to their children.
