Luphisi is a traditional rural village located approximately 40km east of Nelspruit. The region is characterized by high levels of poverty and HIV/AIDS and limited access to information technology and employment.
Khulisa has been actively rendering skills development programmes within the Luphisi community for the past nine years, touching the lives of hundreds of community members with a specific emphasis on micro agriculture.
Our relationship with the only secondary school in Luphisi, Sidungeni High School, with whom Khulisa has partnered for five years, was the first beneficiary of Khulisa’s virtual Global Mentorship Programme when staff members throughout Europe from Maitland International supported learners through IT education, enhanced learning and bursaries. Through additional funding Khulisa established the first and only WiFi tower in the community and an IT classroom. Between 2014 and 2019 the matric pass rate at this school increased from 45% to 100%.
