Meet our Global Mentoring Champion:  PJ Powers – Thandeka

Influential music artist and South African national treasure, PJ Powers holds a special place in South African hearts. Praised by the late Nelson Mandela for her activism during the struggle for democracy, PJs fire and passion for standing up for what’s right and good in life is an inspiration that has set a path for many to follow. We are extremely proud that she has taken on the role as Global Champion for the Khulisa Global Mentorship Movement.

KGMM launch rocks London

KGMM was launched in the UK in June 2016 in collaboration with the SA High Commission, Brand South Africa and the South African stock Exchange in London.  Further launch events were held in October and November 2016.  These high profile events were spearheaded by PJ, as Khulisa’s global champion.

The Maitland Group came on board as the first official corporate backer of the campaign, with more than a hundred new mentors signed up during the PJ Powers campaign and a variety of new partnerships formed with potential backers, funders and partners.

The live performance at South Africa House by PJ Powers was one of the highpoints of the visit and old fans as well as new were as moved by her dynamic songs as they were by her life story and the affirmative way in which she has taken charge of her roller-coaster life.

PJ Powers – or Thandeka, as she has been known since her first performance in Soweto in 1982, continues to create new music that speaks to the times as she weaves her stories through word and sound. Visit PJs Facebook Page and Listen To Her Music. Follow-up visits by PJ Powers and Khulisa are planned for the UK and beyond in 2017.

“It is time for me to give back to the people who nurtured me.
I want to congratulate South Africans living abroad – you are so proud to be South Africans, send some of that back home.”
