WHY WAS THE CLUB STARTED?

WHY WAS THE CLUB STARTED?
Abiot had been doing Drug awareness programmes at the school and from this the Ubuntu Club was started
KHULISA TRAINING INPUTS:
CLUB ACTIVITIES:
The participants went through the full Ubuntu Club training as well as the Drug Peer Educator training. They attended a leadership camp in September 2008 and also were a part of Khulisa Kids programme doing research on youth in their communities.
DATE CLUB COMMENCED:
October 2007
TARGET:
This group combined with two other Ubuntu Youth groups in the area and identified a local very rural crèche. They are currently helping in the erection of a proper structure and have built a jungle gym. They are also helping physically disabled and Down syndrome youth as they are stuck at home most of the time.
IMPACT:
The impact is visible in the erection of the crèche and the joy of the disabled youth who get to have some interaction with them.

WHAT SUPPORT WE NEED:
These young Ubuntu Club members wish to be able to help the disabled more as often they are left at home alone. They want to have a structure where these children can be left during the day and to equip volunteers with the ability to stimulate the less fortunate.
Staff Needs
Volunteers who have some training in dealing with the special needs of the children that could teach local woman who are willing to help care for these children during the day.
Funding Needs
R50 000 to build a structure and wheel chair ramps
Other Needs
• Building material
• Toys
• Educational equipment
• CD player for music
• Drums or other musical instruments
• Braille books for the blind children
• Soft mattresses so that the children who cannot sit can lie in comfort
• Blankets
