Prevention

“Khulisa acknowledges that crime is very often a symptom of the social problems experienced in communities. Thus for effective prevention to take place Khulisa needs to be involved in sustainable community development that will create ‘safe communities of opportunity’. Using the Social Transformation System Model Khulisa establishes the needs of the community. In partnership with government departments, corporates, NGO’s and community based structures Khulisa implements programmes that meet these needs and create sustainable change within the community. These programmes are varied depending on the community needs and Khulisa may undertake further development of programmes to ensure that they match the needs of the community. Khulisa has programmes that raise awareness around a number of key issues, programmes that develop individuals, programmes that create community development workers and community leaders and programmes that develop social entrepreneurism. It is essential that the participant develops themselves first through one of Khulisa’s behaviour change programmes before they can become community leaders, peer educators or entrepreneurs. This process allows for the holistic development of the individual and in turn the holistic development of the community.
