Khulisa is a NPO that addresses social vulnerabilities as a systemic problem. Through multiple partnerships and internationally-acclaimed best-practice programmes, we build capacity for grass-root motivated upliftment. All our interventions are constantly evaluated and improved and have demonstrable social impact.
We have adjusted our services to follow the principle of shared value so that all parties involved will benefit from any co-operation.
On a community level, we conduct research to analyse the needs and design suitable interventions that are built on best-practice programmes and year-long experiences in the field of community development. We are also one of the leading organisations in establishing partnerships in all sectors and engaging all relevant local stakeholders to ensure efficient and sustainable solutions.
Our research and our good understanding allow us to assist governmental institutions to map the need of a community and ensure a good service delivery based on that. We also conduct professional monitoring and evaluation of every project and analyse the outcome as well as the impact of every investment. We report all relevant data to assess and present the effectiveness of every intervention and ensure constant improvement of our work.
We are competently assisting local municipalities and governmental institutions to maximise their positive impact in a community. Co-operating with Khulisa Social Solutions will uplift your community and offer you various benefits as well:
We will assist you to design and implement strategic interventions to change any local community into a well-functioning entity.
As an organisation, we build our knowledge and competence on more than 18 years of experience.
We are one of the biggest NPOs in South Africa and active in various regions in nearly every province. This allows you to exchange experiences with other communities and benchmark your engagement and progress.
Our main focus is to understand what individuals and institutions want to change in their community. We conduct a needs analysis for specific communities that also help our governmental partners to adjust their interventions.
Conducting research is very important for us as an organisation and we have professional monitoring and evaluation tools that help us to provide you with all the necessary information to assess the impact of any intervention and your investment.
We place huge importance on good administrative processes and adequate systems that help us to do all our work in a professional way. We commit to report professionally and on time on the progress of every project as well as our expenditures.
We use best-practice programmes that have been developed and constantly improved by Khulisa to minimise problems and ensure a successful implementation.
A great example of our approach to involve stakeholders from the private sector to uplift communities is our partnership with Standard Bank. We analysed the needs of the local community and assisted Standard Bank to ensure that their investment will have a significant impact. Together we completed and improved the Nqutshini Créche in the community at Nibela Reserve.
Khulisa is very passionate about Early Childhood Development as we know how crucial this age is to make our youngsters resilient and help them to become responsible and active citizens. Access to better health, education, social facilities and nurturing experiences can be seen as positive childhood experiences, which can offset the damaging effects of poverty, crime and violence in our communities. Therefore, if we can change the early childhood experiences of children in at-risk areas, we have a chance of slowing and ultimately stopping these cycles of crime and violence.
One example of Khulisa’s engagement in the field of early childhood development is the community at Nibela Reserve. In 2012, the Local Council started to build the Nqutshini Crèche for the local community. They wanted to provide a building but couldn’t finish it properly. Apart from that the crèche had no equipment or other resources. It was only possible to complete the building of this crèche with the generous support from Standard Bank. They provided all the material and resources that were needed.
Apart from that, Standard Bank also helped with the final construction of the building. Khulisa assisted Standard Bank in this project and gave them guidance how to invest in a local community and specifically at the Nqutshni Crèche. Khulisa conducted research and engaged all relevant parties in a workshop to find out what the real needs of the crèche are and presented them this form of a wish list to Standard Bank.
Beyond the construction of a new outdoor play area and roof, new outdoor play equipment was installed. In addition, play and learning resources such as toys, books, puzzles, balls, carpets, tables and chairs were also delivered. The delivery of stationery and office equipment helped the staff to follow the administrative procedures and the newly built kitchen became a great place to prepare a balanced and healthy meal for the day and provide all the teachers with enough coffee to have energy for the whole day!
A very special and inspiring aspect of this intervention is that Khulisa purchased many goods from local businesses, such as the mats and curtains from women within the community. Consequently, there were more jobs and the positive engagement improved the lives of many individuals and the overall atmosphere in the community.
A handover ceremony was held on 18 November 2013. This event was attended by national, local and traditional leadership and senior representatives from Standard Bank. The event was very successful and the community appeared impressed and pleased with the changes made at the crèche. Photos were taken by Standard Bank staff to celebrate this wonderful co-operation and to show the impact Standard Bank made in this community.
